The Makhai were the spirits of battle and combat, and were sons and daughters of Eris.


The Makhai were the children of Eris, the goddess of strife. They were siblings to other vicious spirits like the Hysminai (conflict), the Androktasiai (manslaughter),the Neikea (arguments) and the Phonoi (murder), Pseudologoi (lies), Amphilogiai (disputes). They were associated with other spirits such as Homados (battle-noise), Alala (war-cry), Proioxis (onrush), Palioxis (backrush) and Kydoimos (confusion).

They were accompanied in battlefields by other gods and spirits of war and death: AresPhobosDeimos, the Keres, Polemos, Enyo and their mother Eris.
