Iphthime was a daughter of Icarius and the wife of Eumelus from Pherae. She was a Queen of Pherae and a descendant of Zeus and Poseidon.

History[]

She was the sister of Penelope and Perileos, Thoas, Damasippus, Imeusimus, Aletes. She was married to Eumelus, the king of Pherae, and became the mother of Zeuxippus, and several other unknown children.

Some after the Trojan war, Athena herself created an image in Iphthime's likeness and sends this to a sleeping Penelope.

This image conveys encouragement to Penelope after the latter confides in it her worries for her husband Odysseus and her son Telemachus.
