Hippolytus was the son of Theseus and a prince of Athens. He was a legacy of Poseidon, Ares and Eurus.
History[]
Hippolytus was a son of Theseus, a son of Poseidon, and Antiope, an Amazon. He was born sometime before the Attic War, and hidden away before the battle between the Athenians and the Amazons. His mother was killed with arrows in the battle.
He was killed after rejecting the advances of Phaedra, his stepmother, the second wife of Theseus. Spurned, Phaedra deceived Theseus saying that his son had raped her. Theseus, furious, used one of the three wishes given to him by Poseidon to curse Hippolytus. Poseidon sent a sea-monster to terrorize Hippolytus's horses, who dragged their rider to his death.
