Gerymbas was a demigod and a son of Poseidon. His mother was the later immortalized nymph Leucothea.

History[]

Gerymbas was one of the six sons of Poseidon and Halia, who later became the sea goddess Leucothea. His brothers were Aspondus, Polydector, Polydophus, Crambus and Cyllomius. He and his brothers refused Aphrodite sanctuary on the island of Rhodes, causing the goddess to punish them with madness. In their madness they attacked and raped their mother. While their mother attempted suicide and became the goddess Leucothea, he and his brothers were punished and killed by Poseidon. While their bodies were buried, their souls were trapped on earth, becoming the eastern spirits who inhabited the sea-caverns of the island of Rhodes
