Alacomenus was a demigod and a son of the muse Polyhymnia.

History

Alacomenus was the son of Somedonus and the Muse Polyhymnia. He once offended Apollo's music, and had his ability to hear taken away.

One night in his own home, he attempted to draw out Hestia from his own hearth by putting his hands into the hearth fire, burning his hands. The goddess blessed him, so that he and his descendants would never be harmed by fire again. He founded a town named Hestaenum in western Greece, dedicated to the goddess.

He fathered three children: Ephyra, Hesticles and Podarcus. He was the ancestor of Metion, who became the father of Daedalus.
